About PIFF 2022
Looking for a culinary adventure in Conde Nast Traveler’s Asia’s Next Great Foodie City? The Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) has a plate with your name on it.
Penang stands out as a must-visit destination for so many reasons. Still, above all else, our internationally recognised street food takes the cake! The state’s legendary foodscape has made headlines around the world. In 2018, Conde Nast Traveler named Penang as Asia’s Next Great Foodie City. In 2019, CNA Luxury featured Penang’s growing fine dining scene while Mirror Online listed Penang as one of the World’s Top 30 Best Cities for Street Food.
This year, get ready to indulge in Penang’s best tasting offerings once again as the state’s biggest food festival – Penang International Food Festival – returns from 20 to 28 August 2022! Set to take place in different parts of the island and mainland, the Penang International Food Festival salutes our hawker heroes and F&B superstars with the Festival’s major events on weekends, such as the “Street Food Festival” and “Taste of Penang”!
The Festival is also bringing back a host of mini festivals to appease all tastes! Beat those Monday blues by enjoying great eats atop SPICE Rooftop Garden at “Picnic @ Roof Garden”. Love food truck grubs? The “Gertak Sanggul Food Truck Rally” offers foodies the opportunity to dine out on delicious eats from dozens of food trucks while soaking in the amazing view of the Straits of Malacca. Those craving for curries will do well at the “Mini Curry Festival” at KOMTAR Walk, where many curry-based dishes await to spice up your week. Looking to quench your thirst? We’ve partnered with Hin Bus Depot to bring you “Thirsty Thursday”, and it’ll feature plenty of beverages to wash down delectable bites! As the weekend gets closer, eat to your heart’s content at the “RM2 Mini Food Festival” at Dataran Pemuda Merdeka, where food will be served in miniature portions priced at RM2. If you’re looking for a great spot enshrouded in nature to enjoy your meals, look no further than “Santai Morning”. We’ve partnered with Tropical Spice Garden so you can soak in excellent jungle and sea views to go with drool-worthy eats!
There’ll also be cooking classes to help you brush up or master a culinary skill focusing on local and fusion dishes. All participants can expect to experience hands-on instruction and cooking demonstration. Tastings are included, of course. Not only does PIFF celebrate and share the diversity of Penang’s international delicacies and local food, but the Festival’s entertainment line-up is something we dream about all year long. From high-decibel cultural beats to Instagram-worthy diorama and spectacular firework displays, PIFF surely brings the island and mainland to life!
